In addition to this excellent body of individual research, however, interdisciplinary research conducted as part of impactful, international research groups and consortia is an equally essential part of the culture of research at the University of Passau. This requires thorough analysis from a variety of disciplines. For its research, the University of Passau relies on interdisciplinary, cross-faculty cooperation and places its focus on three areas:

The limits of growth: Examining the challenges of social transformation with regard to social justice, climate neutrality and sustainable development is considered a particularly vital endeavour at our University.

Political boundaries: Owing to its history and location as a tri-country borderland university, critical engagement with social, ecological, economic, cultural and political dynamics in Europe comes naturally to our University.

Digital boundaries and opportunities: Scholars at our University are researching the technologies that drive the digital transformation as well as the impacts of digitalisation on society as a whole.
